🏠 Your Stay in the House

How do I find the right house and what do I need to bring?

In our house descriptions, you can see exactly how many people each home accommodates. Tip: Our houses are fully equipped. Usually, you only need to bring your personal items. Whether bed linen is included or can be added as an option is stated transparently for each house.

What are the Check-in and Check-out times?

Normally, we welcome you from 4:00 PM, and departure is by 11:00 AM. If you have a late flight or arrive early, let us know—if there is no direct guest changeover scheduled, we are flexible with these times!

When should I book my vacation home?

Especially for the popular winter season (Northern Lights) and the Midsummer months, we recommend booking early, often several months in advance. The best part: You don't have to wait for a confirmation! Through our direct booking system (Smoobu), you can see in real-time which houses are available for your desired period and how much they cost. This allows you to secure your dream holiday immediately. If your preferred date appears occupied online, just write to us—sometimes a gap opens up at short notice!

What is included in the price (bed linen, Wi-Fi, cleaning)?

Transparency is important to us: Details regarding additional costs, final cleaning, and whether bed linen and towels are included can be found directly in the respective house description. Wi-Fi is standard in most of our houses so you can share your experiences.

Can my dog come on vacation?

In many of our houses, four-legged family members are very welcome! However, as we also offer allergy-friendly accommodations, this is not possible in every house. Whether dogs are allowed and what small additional cleaning fees apply can be found directly in the respective house description. This way, you can see immediately if the house fits your holiday with a dog. If you are unsure, just ask us briefly in advance!

What happens if something doesn't work on-site?

Don't worry, we are here for you! If there are problems with the house or the technology, please contact us. We live nearby or have partners on-site who can find a solution quickly.

How does waste separation work in Sweden?

Sweden is a world champion in recycling! In your vacation home, you will find containers for plastic, paper, glass, and metal. Detailed instructions on where you can dispose of recyclables nearby are provided in the house.

Is there Wi-Fi and television?

Yes, you stay connected even in the wilderness! Our houses are equipped with modern routers that run on the Swedish mobile network (LTE/5G). With speeds between 20 and 120 Mbit/s, stable surfing and streaming are generally not a problem.

TV & Streaming: Most of our houses have Smart TVs but no classic satellite connection. You can simply log in with your own accounts (e.g., Netflix, Prime, media libraries). In some houses, a Google Chromecast is also available, allowing you to cast content directly from your phone to the TV.

The exact technical equipment can be found in the respective house description.

❄️ Climate & Clothing

What clothing do I need in winter?

Don't worry: You don't need to be a professional polar explorer or invest hundreds of euros in expensive brand clothing! Most of what you have in your closet for a normal European winter is perfectly sufficient in combination. The magic word is simply the layering look: 🧅

  • Layers instead of thickness: It is better to wear several thin layers on top of each other (e.g., undershirt, T-shirt, fleece or wool sweater) than just one thick jacket. This provides much better insulation.

  • Feet & Head: The most important items are warm socks and a hat. Normal winter boots with a thick sole are usually sufficient.

Additional service for you:

  • Rental: If you do need an extra layer, you can rent thermal overalls through us, which you simply pull over your normal clothes. They offer excellent protection against the cold.

  • During activities: For most guided tours (such as dog sledding or snowmobiling), special overalls and boots are often provided—sometimes free of charge, sometimes for a small fee.

The cold up here is very dry and is often perceived as much more pleasant than a damp, cold winter elsewhere. Just pack your favorite winter gear and look forward to the snow!

How cold does it really get in winter?

In Northern Sweden, winter often brings clear conditions: temperatures around -18°C during the day and -20°C to -25°C at night are completely normal.

But don't panic: The cold here is extremely dry. While -5°C in a damp wind can often feel cold to the bone, the dry air here is much more pleasant. It is a "beautiful" cold that is easy to handle with the right layering (see clothing tips above).

Note: Of course, there are outliers—on individual days, the thermometer can drop further, but these are usually brief exceptions. It makes it all the cozier inside your vacation home!

What is the weather like in the summer in Northern Sweden?

Many guests are surprised: Northern Sweden is not a "refrigerator" in summer! Thanks to the midnight sun and the long days, nature warms up beautifully.

You can expect pleasant temperatures between 22°C and 25°C. It is the perfect weather for outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, or canoeing without suffering from extreme heatwaves.

Tip for your suitcase: Even though the days are warm, it cools down in the evening as soon as the sun is low. So, a light sweater or a thin jacket should be in your luggage even in summer.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family & Special Features

Are the vacation homes and activities family-friendly?

Absolutely! Northern Sweden is a giant adventure playground for children.

  • Regarding the house: Since each of our houses has its own unique character, we do not have a general "family label." It’s best to ask us directly if you have a house in mind. We will tell you honestly if it is optimally suited for your child (whether toddler or teenager)—for example, regarding room layout or the surroundings.

  • Regarding activities: Many providers in the region love families! There are often discounted rates for children or even special family prices.

Do you offer your own services or tours?

Yes, we are more than just a room agency! We want you to experience Northern Sweden like an insider.

  • On-site in the house: In each of our vacation homes, a personal information folder awaits you. In it, you will find our tips for the area—from the best barbecue spots by the lake to hiking trails.

  • Additional comfort: We offer various house upgrades to make your stay even more pleasant. Simply check the "Service & Upgrades" menu item.

  • Insider knowledge: Whether it's rental car arrangements or finding the best spot for the Northern Lights—just ask us! We are happy to help you with our local network.

🛒 Supplies & Mobility

Where can I shop and what are the opening hours?

Local supplies in our region are very guest-friendly—even on weekends and public holidays!

  • In Vidsel: Right in town, there is the cozy shop "Tempo." It is the perfect place for daily needs from Monday to Saturday.

  • Insider Tip: In our houses in Vidsel, you will find a QR code on the fridge. Simply scan it to load the current opening hours and the latest offers directly onto your phone!

  • In Älvsbyn: Here you will find large, well-stocked supermarkets like ICA or Coop, which are usually open daily until 9:00 PM or 10:00 PM.

  • In the cities (Luleå, Piteå, Boden, Jokkmokk): Here you have a wide selection of shops that are often open every day from 07:00 AM to 10:00 PM—ideal if you want to pick something up during an excursion.

  • Important to know: Alcoholic beverages over 3.5% are exclusively available in Sweden at the state-run store called Systembolaget. These have normal business hours during the week and are often only open until 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM on Saturdays (closed on Sundays).

Do I absolutely need a rental car?

Since distances in Northern Sweden are long and public transport to remote areas is scarce, we strongly recommend a rental car. As you know, we are happy to assist with arrangements through our local partners.

🎣 Adventure & Activities

Do I need to buy fishing licenses in advance?

For most lakes and rivers, you need a fishing permit (Fiskekort). You can often buy these very easily online.

What happens to booked tours in extreme weather?

Your safety comes first! If a snowstorm or extreme cold makes an activity (like dog sledding) impossible, the tour will be postponed or canceled free of charge by the organizer.

How can I book activities on-site?

You can inquire about many adventures directly via our website. Just take a look at our "Activities" page—there we present the best experiences in the region. Our price philosophy:

  • Fair & Transparent: We generally pass on the prices of local providers (guides) 1:1 to you. So, you pay the same price as you would directly with the organizer.

  • Service Fee: For some activities that we coordinate and book for you, we charge a small service fee for our effort. However, we always indicate this directly and transparently in the prices so you know exactly where you stand.

Should I book tours in advance or spontaneously?

The golden rule here is: The earlier, the better! Especially for absolute highlights like dog sledding, demand is huge. These tours are often fully booked up to 1 year in advance, as the number of participants per guide is strictly limited. Those who only start planning shortly before their holiday usually only find individual gaps with a lot of luck.

  • Our recommendation: As soon as your travel date is set, you should also take care of your desired activities.

  • Spontaneously on-site: Only smaller excursions can usually be squeezed in at short notice.

What happens if I have to cancel an activity?

The conditions of the respective organizer apply. Since the weather in the North can be unpredictable, many partners are accommodating or offer alternative dates. Please inform us or the provider as early as possible.

When can you see the Northern Lights?

The season for the Aurora Borealis usually begins at the end of August and lasts until April. As soon as it gets truly dark at night and the sky is clear, you have the best chances—often directly from the terrace of your vacation home!
